Kasama Arts Zambia

Kasama Arts Zambia is a performing arts ensemble from Kasama, Zambia, founded on 7 August 2003. Its work combined dance, theatre, music and other expressive forms to entertain, inform and encourage discussion of community concerns. The group drew on theatre-for-development ideas and worked with community arts organisations, institutions and other partners. Its productions connected performance with social and economic development, using local experience and Zambian creative traditions as a foundation. By 2019, the ensemble had performed at home and abroad, including events in Malawi, France and Spain. Its 2018 appearance at Hurungwe Arts Festival prompted calls for a return the following year. At that time, the company was described as involving twenty-five members drawn from Kasama communities and community-theatre networks.
