THE PRACTICE. THE PERSPECTIVE.

About the artist.

Sparrow, also named Peter Lubenga, is a Kampala-born Ugandan street artist, photographer, teacher and arts activist. His practice combined spray paint and other paints to create public images, share artistic skills and connect creative work with community life. He founded the Afri-cans Street Art Festival and worked in photography through Lubega Photography. By 2019, his activities had included community projects, exhibitions, dance festivals and hip-hop programmes across the region. Among the projects associated with his work were Kampala’s KLA ART Festival, Goma Dance Festival in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Off the Wall Graffiti in Ethiopia, and Uganda’s Streetlights Exhibition. He also contributed as a photographer, dancer and graffiti coach, linking visual expression with performance and arts education.
